Tigers are there inside. But being a protected forest of about 80km long, 30km wide, with many mountains and grasslands it is difficulty to spot tiger and leopards. Also they don't like humans, so move away from the trekking path. They have great sense of smell and can hear low frequency sounds. So animals know human presence from far away. And importantly trekking is allowed in buffer areas, in core forest no tourism activity is allowed.

It has been estimated that the population of the big wild feline has increased by 6 per cent over the past five years.While the Periyar Tiger Reserve may have 30 to 35 tigers, Parambikulam is expected to have 25 to 30 tigers. Go and explore Wayanad 😂 you can see a lots of tiger in the road😂
